The European Framework Programme for Research has been renamed and will undergo a strategical change: starting from 2014 it will be transformed into the Framework for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020). All information to the ongoing process of defining the “FP8” can be found at the official site Horizon 2020 of the European Commission.
On 30 November 2011 the European Commission published its official proposal for the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (2014-2020).
The proposal includes three new funding priorities: Excellent Science, Industrial Leadership and Societal Challenges, as well as the funding and management rules. The budget is to amount to around €80 billion for the period from 2014 to 2020. In addition, the Commission published a further proposal for the EURATOM programme for the period from 2014 to 2020.
Please note that the legal process of setting up the “FP8” is still an ongoing process. The current proposal will be discussed and negotiated between the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council until its final adoption (planned for the End of 2013, see timeline).
